Egypt police prepare to clear Cairo protest camps
Security officials say police may move in on supporters of former president Mohammed Morsi as early as Monday morning
Associated Press in Cairo
theguardian.com, Monday 12 August 2013 07.56 BST

Supporters of Egypt's ousted president have dug in at their two Cairo sit-ins after security officials said police would besiege the entrenched protest camps within 24 hours – perhaps as early as Monday morning.
The latest development sets the stage for a possible confrontation between the military-backed government and the thousands gathered at the protest sites in support of Mohammed Morsi. The protesters have said they will not leave until Morsi, ousted in a coup on 3 July, is reinstated.

Security officials said they would set up cordons around the protest sites to bar anyone from entering, and one of the officials said that could begin as soon as sunrise on Monday.

A special force within the riot police trained for crowd dispersal is expected to deal with protesters. In the past, however, Egypt's riot police, many lacking the training to deal with unarmed civilians, have resorted to using lethal force.

Mass rallies two weeks ago called by Egypt's military leader, General Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, showed that a large segment of Egypt's population backs the armed forces' actions against Morsi's supporters.

Akhirnya bentrokan berdarah terjadi juga di Cairo
CAIRO -- Egypt's police and military stormed a pair of Muslim Brotherhood protest sites here early on Wednesday morning, leaving several protesters dead and dozens wounded as violence threatened to spill across the city.
The storming of the protest sites, at the Rabaa al-Adawiya mosque in Nasr City and another one in Nahda square, had been anticipated for more than a week, but came as a surprise when it began at 7 a.m. local time.
Reporters counted the bodies of more than 40 people after security forces moved in, but the Muslim Brotherhood has put the figure at more than 100.

Supporters of deposed Islamist president Mohamed Mursi torched three churches in central Egypt on Wednesday in reprisal attacks as police dispersed demonstrations in Cairo, reports said.

The assailants threw firebombs at Mar Gergiss church in Sohag, a city with a large community of Coptic Christians who comprise up to 10 percent of Egypt’s 84 million people, causing it to burn down, the official MENA news agency said.
Security officials told AFP that another two churches were attacked in el-Menia province, leaving them partially damaged by fire.
Coptic rights group the Maspero Youth Union reported the same information, accusing Mursi’s Muslim Brotherhood movement of “waging a war of retaliation” against the country’s Christians.

Tapi pertumpahan darah harusnya dihindari.
Jatuhnya ratusan korban kemarin tentu saja jadi kecaman dunia.

Bagaimana kalo penduduk dgn 70an jt orang ini mengalami absence of law?
Bisa2 korbannya bukan hanya ratusan spt skrg lagi, dan jutaan kristen koptik bisa terancam genosida.

Churches attacked, burned
Amid the fierce clashes taking place in Cairo, numerous reports and images are emerging of churches that have been attacked and burned elsewhere in the country.

Egyptian news Web site Mada Masr has some details on the attacks:

In Sohag [a city on the west bank of the Nile 245 miles south of Cairo], Bishop of Mar Girgis Church Moussa Ibrahim told Mada Masr that the church was set ablaze by Muslim Brotherhood supporters at 9:30 am in the absence of police forces, despite repeated threats against the church.

The biggest church in the governorate, Mar Girgis is located in Thakafa Square near the Brotherhood sit-in. Three other small churches were also attacked in Sohag but Ibrahim could not confirm the extent of the damage.

A Coptic resident living near the church told Mada Masr that shops owned by Copts and Muslims in front of the church were destroyed. Live shots were heard in the area as citizens began forming popular committees.

Al-Jazeera posted this image on Twitter, which it says shows a church after being attacked and burned in Sohag.

Egypt bloodshed: Death toll rises to 327 after troops clear pro-Morsi camps

CAIRO – Egypt descended into a chaotic bloodbath – and another political crisis - Wednesday after security forces backed by bulldozers moved into opposition protest camps set up by supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi, sparking deadly violence.

Interim Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi spoke in a televised address late Wednesday of a "difficult day for Egypt" but said the government had no choice but to order the crackdown to prevent anarchy spreading.

"We found that matters had reached a point that no self-respecting state could accept," he said.

Early Thursday, the country's health ministry announced that at least 327 people were killed and 2,930 others injured. That toll looked certain to rise as unrest spread from Cairo to other parts of the country.

According to Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim, 43 security force members were also killed in the violence, including 18 police officers who died while clearing out protest camps.

Ibrahim also denied earlier reports that eight leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested during the police operation and charged with inciting violence.

The forceful removal of the pro-Morsi sit-in demonstrators brought condemnation from the United States and the United Nations.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said “today’s events are deplorable and they run counter to Egyptian's aspirations for peace.”

The violence in Cairo also prompted the resignation of interim government minister Mohamed ElBaradei.

A month-long nationwide state of emergency was declared, and a nighttime curfew imposed in some areas, as the interim government sought to restore order.

Kerry said the U.S. “strongly opposes a return to the state of emergency law” and “supports the Egyptian people's hopes for a prompt and sustainable transition to an inclusive sustainable democracy.”

At field hospitals near the two camp locations, dozens of bodies were laid out as the injured sheltered from tear gas and gunfire.

Protesters wrapped the body of one man who had been shot in the chest.

"It is nasty inside, they are destroying our tents. We can't breathe inside and many people are in hospital," volunteer Murad Ahmed told a Reuters correspondent at the Rabaa camp in the Nasr City district of the city.

"We are here, all of us, we are willing to be dead here for the sake of freedom," a professor of ophthalmology at the scene told NBC News. "They are shooting us with guns...and killing people here and we have nothing in our hands, we have nothing in our hands."

Among those killed were Asmaa Beltagy - the 17-year-old daughter of Mohammed Beltagy, one of the Muslim Brotherhood's top leaders - and at least two international journalists.

At one stage, a woman was seen trying to stop a bulldozer from causing further injury to a wounded youth.

At a hospital morgue, a Reuters reporter counted 29 bodies, including that of a 12-year-old boy. Most had died of gunshot wounds to the head.

Egypt’s interior ministry said only tear gas had been used to clear the sit camps, but a Reuters reporter said he saw about 20 protesters who had been shot in the legs by soldiers.

Pro-Morsi protesters were seen throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at troops, Reuters reported.

The violent scenes prompted an angry backlash across Egypt, including attacks on churches and the killing of an air force colonel in a highway ambush.

At one stage, armed protesters were inside Cairo Zoo, firing at police, state television reported.

The U.S. Embassy was closed, the country’s stock exchange suspended and train services halted,

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned the violence used by Egypt’s security forces.

“While the UN is still gathering precise information about today's events, it appears that hundreds of people were killed or wounded in clashes between security forces and demonstrators,” he said in a statement.

Turkey’s prime minister called on the United Nations Security Council to help, describing Wednesday's events as a “massacre.”

"The international community, especially the U.N. Security Council and Arab League, must act immediately to stop this massacre," Tayyip Erdogan's office said in a statement.

The sit-in camps were formed in protest at the military-backed July 3 ouster of democratically elected Morsi.

More than 300 people have already died in political violence since the army deposed Morsi exactly 12 months into his four-year term as president.

On Tuesday, police fired tear gas at Morsi supporters who marched on the country's Ministry of Religious Endowment.

'We will not cower': Muslim Brotherhood pledges fightback as Egypt death toll climbs to 525

Image

By Ayman Mohyeldin and Alastair Jamieson, NBC News

CAIRO – The Muslim Brotherhood pledged to bring down Egypt’s military-backed interim government Thursday, deepening the country’s political crisis as the official death toll from clashes between security forces and supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi climbed to 525.

“We will rise and rise again until we push the military back into the barracks and restore democracy,” Gehad El-Haddad, spokesman for the Islamist organization, said on his Twitter feed.

“We will not bow down, we will not cower,” said El-Haddad, adding that the security forces had shown “unbelievable brutality”.

President Barack Obama was expected to speak about the crisis at 10.15 a.m ET.

Hundreds of angry Morsi supporters attacked and set fire to the offices of the governor of Cairo's Giza district at about 2 p.m. local time (8 a.m. ET). They threw Molotov cocktails and fired live ammunition into the building as government workers fled, according to security sources.

The Muslim Brotherhood also announced plans to hold a march Thursday in Cairo.

El-Haddad's call to arms followed a bloody day of unrest in Egypt, after security forces - backed by bulldozers - cleared two Cairo sit-in camps protesting the military's removal of the country's democratically elected leader. The health ministry announced Thursday that the death toll from subsequent clashes reached 525, with 3,572 others injured. Activists said the true death toll was much higher.
The violent clearance of the camps triggered a backlash around Egypt, prompting the interim government to declare a month-long state of emergency and impose a night-time curfew.

Secretary of State John Kerry described the situation as “deplorable.” The unrest also sparked the resignation of Nobel Peace Prize winner and interim government minister Mohamed ElBaradei.

In a troubling indication of the increasingly sectarian nature of Egypt's divisions, Reuters cited state media and security sources as saying that a number of churches had been attacked across Egypt.

Churches were attacked in the Nile Valley towns of Minya, Sohag and Assiut, where Christians escaped across the roof into a neighboring building after a mob surrounded and hurled bricks at their place of worship, state news agency MENA said.

Authorities referred 84 people from the city of Suez, including Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters, to military prosecutors on Thursday on charges of murder and burning churches, the state news agency reported.

As Egypt awoke to the first full day of its month-long state of emergency, Cairo appeared calm.

Traffic flowed through the former site of the Rabaa camp, and many Egyptians expressed support for the army in removing the protest camps. Passing drivers were beeping their horns, shouting “Long live Egypt” and slowing to shake hands with soldiers guarding the scorched area.

“I support the army,” said Mohamed, a student. “Now we are free, finally.”

A woman called Isra said: “What happened [on July 3] is not a coup, it is a people’s revolution. I support anyone who supported us to get rid of the terrorism we saw in the streets in the past year.”

But while the streets were quiet, activists rallied online – using social media to collate pictures and first-hand accounts of Wednesday’s violence at the Rabaa and Nahda camps.

Images of bodies piled high in mosques and other makeshift morgues were posted on Twitter, while on Facebook one activist set up a gruesome gallery showing victims of the violence.

Egypt’s Interior Ministry also posted pictures - of the 13 policemen killed by pro-Morsi protesters who fought back during the camp clearances.
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 65fa8f6444

El-Haddad said the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies had suffered a "very strong blow" in Wednesday's crackdown, and that the whereabouts of all its key leaders could not be ascertained.

The turmoil is the latest chapter in a bitter standoff between Morsi's supporters and the interim leadership that seized control of the Arab world's most populous country on July 3.

Morsi’s removal came after millions of Egyptians massed in the streets at the end of June to call for him to step down, accusing him of giving the Brotherhood undue influence and failing to implement vital reforms or bolster the ailing economy.

Morsi himself has been held at an undisclosed location, and faces charges – brought by the security forces – that he colluded with Palestinian militants.

His detention was extended Thursday for another 30 days.

NBC News' Charlene Gubash and Reuters contributed to this report.

Pembantaian Rakyat Mesir
Kairo - Banyak pendukungnya tewas dibantai aparat polisi Mesir, Ikhwanul Muslimin menyerukan unjuk rasa besar-besaran.

“(Ikhwanul Muslimin) memaksa aparat berbuat keras,” lanjutnya.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J29WaUD5s5A

WANITA tidak luput menjadi target dlm kamp2 IM. Mereka dilecehkan kalau menolak nge-sex dgn pendukung2 IM.

Belum lagi dgn ditemukannya jenazah2. Jenasah2 mrk dikubur dlm kuburan massal di Rab‘a. :supz: :supz:
