She said afterwards, that she had her first inkling of her new status when one day she was playing with her friends outside, not far from their house, and her mother came and too her by the hand and led her indoors, telling her that henceforth she must not go out to play, and that her friends must come to her instead. ‘A’ishah dimly guessed the reason, though her mother did not immediately tell her that she was married; and apart from having to play in their courtyard instead of in the roads, her life continued as before. The APA diagnostic criteria do not require actual sexual activity with a pre-pubescent youths. The diagnosis can therefore be made based on the presence of fantasies or sexual urges alone, provided the subject meets the remaining criteria. "For individuals in late adolescence with Pedophilia, no precise age difference is specified, and clinical judgment must be used." (p. 527 DSM).[25]

Muhammad mengalami keterbelakangan mental??
René Guyon (1876-1963), a French legal scholar and philosopher of sexual relations, made a case in his works on sexual ethics that children not only were not injured by sexual activity but that it was actually beneficial, arguing that the repression of children's sexuality had deleterious effects in later life. Like later apologists for paedophilia, he elided the desirability of children not being traumatically punished for their own sexual explorations, and the need for them to have some form of sex education, with the rather different issue of adult sexual access to children. The relationship between children and adults is not an equal one, given that adults are physically larger and stronger and have power and authority over them. It is questionable whether behaviour perceived by adults as sexual and seductive has such a meaning for the child.

"I would be playing with my dolls," she said, "with the girls who were my friends, and the Prophet would come in and they would steal out of the house and he would go out after them and bring them back, for he was pleased for my sake to have them there." Sometimes he would say "Stay where ye are" before they had time to move. He would also join in their games sometimes, FOR HE LOVED CHILDREN [Sam- meaning Aisha was only a child like them] and had often played with his own daughters. The dolls of puppets had many different roles. "One day," said ‘A’ishah, "the Prophet came in when I was playing with the dolls and he said: ‘O ‘A’ishah, whatever game is this?’ I said: ‘It is Solomon’s horses,’ and he laughed." While we were returning from a Ghazwa (Holy Battle) with the Prophet, I started driving my camel fast, as it was a lazy camel A rider came behind me and pricked my camel with a spear he had with him, and then my camel started running as fast as the best camel you may see. Behold! The rider was the Prophet himself. He said, 'What makes you in such a hurry?" I replied, I am newly married " He said, "Did you marry a virgin or a matron? I replied, "A matron." He said, "Why didn't you marry a young girl so that you may play with her and she with you?" When we were about to enter (Medina), the Prophet said, "Wait so that you may enter (Medina) at night so that the lady of unkempt hair may comb her hair and the one whose husband has been absent may shave her pubic region. Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:
When I got married, Allah's Apostle said to me, "What type of lady have you married?" I replied, "I have married a matron." He said, "Why, don't you have a liking for the virgins AND FOR FONDLING THEM?" 1. Muhammad berhadapan dengan etika universal segala zaman (apalagi modern). Pantaskah, seorang yang mengaku dirinya ‘nabi’, mengawini anak di bawah umur? Apa urusan kakek gaek berusia 54 tahun mengawini anak perempuan kecil yang belum puber dengan alasan untuk dapat ‘bermain-main’?
2. Dampak destruktif yang ditimbulkan terhadap si anak perempuan, baik psikologis maupun fisik.

Women who experienced adult-child sexual contact were 1.6 times as likely to report sexual desire dysfunction, 2.1 times as likely to report sexual response dysfunction, 2.4 times as likely to report high dysfunction, 1.6 times as likely to report low overall well being, 1.7 times as likely to report low relationship satisfaction, and had more sexual activities that they found appealing compared with those who had no coupled sexual experiences as children. For every outcome except high dysfunction and number of sex acts found appealing, the introduction of the sexual trajectory variables (Models 2 and 3) renders the adult-child sexual contact coefficient insignificant, indicating that the effects of adult-child sex on adult outcomes are largely indirect, mediated through sexual trajectories."
3. Pernikahan Muhammad-Aisyah mendorong munculnya fatwa-fatwa yang menjustifikasi perkawinan dengan anak-anak di bawah umur.

"Girls are considered marriageable from the time they reach puberty. The lower class marries very young. The ages for marriage and first pregnancy on Tarut Island, off the east coast, were published in a rare study on women that I unearthed from a library. In the group as a whole, the mean age for marriage was fourteen, with the first pregnancy occurring at sixteen. Out of 193 girls, 3 married as young as ten. Among the Bedouins and the rural poor, a girl can be the second of two wives, married to a man older than her father, the mother of several children, and suffering from severe depression by the age of eighteen."
Miriam Ali dalam "Without Mercy", diterbitkan oleh Warner Books, 1995 menceritakan pengalaman anak-anak perempuannya, Nadia dan Zana, yang diculik dan dijadikan istri-istri orang di Yaman. Keduanya masih di awal usia remaja:
