Al-Deen (religion) is the collection of judgments and ordinances that Allah prescribed for mankind. Al-Deen, Al-Shariaa and Al-Milla are all synonyms.
Therefore, Islam, as a divine religion,contains all that was revealed by Allah the Almighty to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), including faith, morals, devotions, transactions and punishments. Islam’s teachings are contained in the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah.
Allah commanded the Prophet Muhammad to convey His Message to all mankind.
Allah says what means, (O Messenger (Muhammad, peace be upon him)! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not conveyed His Message. Allah will protect you from mankind.) (Al-Maeda 67). The Message here represents the Quran and the Sunnah that contain the instructions of Islam.
Islam's Message
Islam aims at reforming the individual and the community through devotion to Allah the Almighty and returning to Islam’s principles in all life is affairs.
These principles are:
1. Clear genuine belief
2. Faithful worship
3. Good morals
4. Legislation and just judgment
These principles have certain bases:
First: The bases of genuine belief
1. Belief in Allah the Almighty
This refers to a comprehensive knowledge of Allah, His attributes and deeds and all that should be known about Him. The source of such knowledge should be the Quran and the Sunnah. Belief in Allah also denotes submission to Him, obeying all His commandments and avoiding all His prohibitions as conveyed through his prophet to seek
His satisfaction, as Allah says what means, (And who can be better in religion than one who submits his face (himself) to Allah (i.e., follows Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism); and he is a Muhsen (a good-doer))(Al-Nesaa 4:125).
1. Belief in Allah is the root of all Islamic principles, starting from heart-felt faith, to words, actions, devotions and all that concerns life and death.
2. Belief in Allah’s Angels
3. Belief in Allah’s Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them all)
4. Belief in the divine books
5. Belief in the Last Day
6. Belief in Allah’s predetermination
Second: The five pillars of Islam
The Kaba
1. The two testimonies:
i- To testify that there is no God but Allah
ii- To testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah
2. To perform prayers
3. To pay Zakah
4. To observe fasting during the month of Ramadan
5. To perform Hajj (i.e. pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a life-time, on condition that one is capable of doing so physically and financially).
Third: The principles of good morals
1. Patience: includes the attributes of perseverance, fortitude, removing harm from people’s way, forbearance, clemency and prudence.
2. Chastity: includes the attributes of pudency, which is the source of all good, refraining from wicked actions and words, obscenity, avarice, telling lies, calumny and gossip.
3. Courage: includes the attributes of self-dignity, pursuit of high morals, devotedness, generosity, patience, sacrifice and fortitude. Courage and self-control prohibits man from violence and injustice, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The strong is not the one who overcomes people by his strength, but the one who controls himself while in anger.”
4. Justice: in this context means moderation in morals between extravagance and negligence. It teaches man generosity as opposed to stinginess and niggardliness, shyness that is between humility and impudence, courage that is between cowardice and rashness, and patience that is between anger and humility. Moderation is the origin of all the previous four good morals.
These are regarded as the basis of all other morals.
Fourth: The principles of legislation and just judgments
1. impartiality in judgment
2. Equity before the law
3. Freedom
4. Consultation
Islam emphasizes the importance of education in order to enable Muslims to face the challenges of life. In the first Quranic verse revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, Allah says what means, (Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists).
He has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous) (Al-Alaq 96:1-3). Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim”.
Allah also said what means, (Invite (mankind, O Muhammad, peace be upon him) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Revelation and the Quran) and fair preaching) (Al-Nahl 16:125).

It was only after the city of Mecca had been fully occupied, and the silent pall of death and fear hung over Mecca, that the Prophet of Islam ventured out on his camel. He headed straight for the Kaaba. The first thing he found there was the wooden Dove, the symbol of peace. He crushed it with his own hands and threw the broken fragments to the ground. Then he kicked the pieces with his foot and stomped the remains into dust. This very first action of Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam symbolizes for all time the destructive nature of the religion that he had created.
